Sweden’s southernmost national river, the Vindel River, runs through the heart of Kraddsele, mesmerizing locals and visitors alike with its beauty. In addition to pure aesthetic value, it also carries excellent stocks of large trout and grayling.
This is the home of the famous Ammarnäs trout. A beautiful, wild fish with an average weight of around 3,7 kg. The Ammarnäs trout migrate from Storvindeln up to the Ammarnäs/ Kraddsele area to spawn. They are wild and aggressive, and fully capable of emptying your reel.
Ask anyone and they will tell you – it truly is a fantastic and unforgettable experience to feel the power of an Ammarnäs trout!
The Klondyke of Fly Fishing
In Kraddsele there are two stretches exclusively for fly fishing. One of these stretches, Järnforsen, is a well-documented hotspot especially for both Ammarnäs trout. These stretches usually hold plenty of fish, and of an average size that will keep you coming back for more. Järnforsen is limited to three (3) fishing permits per day, or a family/group permit. These permits can be booked in advance at ifiske.se
Furthermore, the famous Övreforsen is now available through the general fishing permit (Kraddsele Allmänna). When grayling is your thing, you do not to miss out on this excellent part of the river. And if that’s not enough to lure you in, the uppermost part of Övreforsen is also a classic hideout for Ammarnäs trout.
In total, 1.6 kilometers of the river is reserved for fly fishing only. Apart from Järnforsen mentioned above, there is also the Fly fishing stretch, which is made up of 4 different rapids and totals 1,1 kilometers.
The whole Kraddsele fishing stretch is 16 km long – 17 different rapids make up a total of 11 kilometers, while the remaining part consists of what we in Sweden call ”sel” – slower, almost lake-like, waters.
Sustainable fishing
Fishing regulations are there to ensure sustainability by governing the bag limit and maximum sizes, as well as restricting the number of anglers. This will result in top notch fishing for future generations.
